In the famous Inaugural Address by John F. Kennedy on January 20th 1961, he said, "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."
As business people we often times think, "What's in it for me? or Is this business
deal a good deal for me?" Instead of asking these type questions we should be
asking, "Is this mutually beneficial for all parties involved? or Will this lift
us up to a new level of business or partnership?"
So I want to restate what John F. Kennedy said but in chamber terms, and some
might find this blasphemous, but here we go, "Ask
not what your chamber can do for you - ask what you can do for your chamber."
When one succeeds we all should and can succeed together. It's similar to bouys,
when the tide rises all the bouys rise together. This is what a chamber of
commerce and chamber members should work to accomplish.
