Goblin Valley Ultra-Marathon

The Green River, Utah Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce this year’s running of the “Goblin Gauntlet” through Goblin Valley State Park in southeast Utah. Runners from the Intermountain West are invited to test their skills and endurance in a 50 k, that’s right – 50 gorgeous kilometers (or about 31 miles) through some of the most fascinating and challenging terrain this side of terra firma. A 25 k race is also available for the less hardy.

The 2008 Goblin Valley Ultra Marathon begins Friday evening, October 24th, with a pre-registration dinner in Green River, Utah at the Powell River History Museum. The race then begins promptly at 8:00 am the next morning at the Goblin Valley State Park, one hour away.

The 50 k course is a gently rolling out-and-back course, beginning at the Goblin Valley State Park pavilion, then along the valley floor and bottom of the canyon, up on to the top of scenic mesas, and then back to the park, weaving in and out of the goblin formations to the finish line.

Goblin Valley is a breath-taking and extraordinary valley of towering mesas and intricate wind-carved rock formations some believe resemble goblins. For a peek at the country you will be traversing, log onto the Utah State Parks website to find information, photos, and a video of the park, or log onto our web-site located at www.goblinvalleyultra.com that’s www.goblinvalleyultra.com
